What is SDSN Youth Solution Hub?

On 31 October 2018, SDSN Youth announces at the Vatican Youth Symposium the launch of the Youth Solutions Hub (YSH), an online community-building platform that connects youth innovators working to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with mentors, tools and resources that can help them scale their solutions.

Youth represent approximately one quarter of the world’s population – an untapped potential to solve some of the greatest challenges of our time. While the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasizes that “children and young women and men are critical agents of change,” who hold “the future of humanity and of our planet,” these young agents of change have many barriers to overcome in order to get their solutions off the ground.

According to the survey conducted by SDSN Youth’s 2018 Youth Solutions Report, the biggest challenges young innovators face include access to finance, lack of visibility and networking opportunities, technology exchange and innovation, and education and skills development.

The good news is, there is no lack of resources for youth innovators; yet these resources are scattered and fragmented. That is why SDSN Youth are launching the Youth Solutions Hub to bring them together in one place, where innovators can meet experts in business, industry and academia, build valuable collaborations with fellow innovators, and access exclusive tools and insights, thereby gaining fresh ideas and practices to take their solutions to the next level.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 goals included in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was launched at UN Headquarters in September 2015 and adopted by all 193 UN member states. The SDGs, which are relevant to all countries, aim to achieve social inclusion, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability for all people.

SDSN Youth is the youth initiative of SDSN, focused on empowering youth globally to create sustainable development solutions. SDSN Youth educates young people about the challenges of sustainable development and creates opportunities for them to use their creativity and knowledge to pioneer innovative solutions for the SDGs. SDSN Youth creates platforms for young people to connect, collaborate, and integrate their ideas and perspectives within the public policy field.

The Youth Solutions Hub is part of SDSN Youth’s efforts to support youth-led innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include the Youth Solutions Report and the SDSN Youth Investment Readiness Program. It is an online community-building platform that connects young sustainability innovators with experienced and dedicated mentors and experts from industry, businesses and academia. The goal is to equip innovators with the right tools and skill set, enhancing their capacity and enabling them to scale their solutions and ideas.
